BITCOIN STRATEGY

Published April 14, 2026 · By Tim George, Financial Educator

Bitcoin just touched $75,000 again. And for many investors — especially those who missed the earlier run — the question burning in their minds is: do I buy now, or wait for a pullback?

Here’s the problem with that question: it’s focused entirely on price. And price is NOT the signal that matters right now. What actually determines what happens next — whether this level holds, breaks, or launches higher — is what’s happening underneath. Liquidity. Access. Seller behavior. These are the real indicators.

Why $75K Is Not Just Another Price Level

$75,000 is psychologically significant for Bitcoin — but more importantly, it’s a structural level. Here’s what that means:

  • Previous high = previous seller concentration — Many investors who bought near $75K in a prior cycle are watching this level. If they believe it’s a ceiling, they sell. If they believe it’s a floor, they hold — and new buyers must bid higher.
  • Options market positioning — Large options positions cluster around round numbers like $75K. These positions can create artificial resistance or support depending on how they’re hedged.
  • Liquidity clustering — Market makers tend to cluster liquidity (buy/sell orders) around psychological levels. When price approaches $75K, the dynamics of order flow change.

The Hidden Signal Most People Are Missing

While most investors focus on price, the real signal is in on-chain data — specifically, the behavior of sellers. Right now, the key question is: are sellers still present at $75K?

When sellers are abundant, price struggles to break through resistance. When sellers disappear — meaning long-term holders aren’t moving their coins, exchange balances are declining, and new supply is being absorbed faster than it’s being sold — price can move violently and unexpectedly. Markets don’t rise gradually when sellers disappear. They gap.

📊 Key On-Chain Signals to Watch

  • Exchange balance trend — If Bitcoin is flowing OUT of exchanges, holders are moving to self-custody (bullish). If flowing IN, potential selling pressure ahead (bearish).
  • Long-term holder behavior — Coins that haven’t moved in 1+ years represent “diamond hands.” If these wallets start moving, it can signal distribution.
  • ETF inflows/outflows — Institutional money moving in or out of spot Bitcoin ETFs reflects institutional conviction. Sustained inflows = strong demand signal.
  • Funding rates on futures — Positive funding rates mean longs are paying shorts — a sign of leverage. Excessive leverage = liquidation cascade risk.

Should You Buy Bitcoin at $75,000?

The honest answer: it depends on your situation, not on where the price is. The price of Bitcoin at any given moment matters far less than:

  1. Your time horizon — If you’re holding for 4+ years, today’s price is likely less important than the long-term trajectory driven by halving cycles and institutional adoption.
  2. Your position size — A 1–3% Bitcoin allocation in a retirement portfolio behaves very differently than a 30% allocation. Sizing to your risk tolerance is everything.
  3. Your financial foundation — Do you have your emergency fund, retirement income floor, and debt situation handled? If yes, a small Bitcoin allocation may make sense. If no, wait.
  4. Your entry method — Dollar-cost averaging (buying fixed amounts at regular intervals) removes the emotional weight of “timing the market.” You don’t need to call the bottom.

The Decision Point Facing 45–65 Investors Right Now

For investors approaching or in retirement, the $75K question isn’t really about Bitcoin’s price. It’s about whether your overall financial plan is positioned for a world where:

  • Inflation may remain elevated for years
  • Traditional bond yields may not keep pace with real inflation
  • Institutional adoption of Bitcoin continues to grow
  • Your retirement horizon may span 20–30 years
